Ohhhh...thanks, Smart! That makes more sense since Min (tone2) sounds very very close to Ming (tone 2). So, is this the "RenMin de Min" (the "min" as in "renmin")? In that case, each character makes sense: "Min" (tone 2) meaning "citizen" or "people" and "Gong" (tone 1) meaning "work", "labor", or "worker".

Dave, lookin' forward to yo' call. I'm at my 502 number. Aw yeah.

One explanation for help understand "Ming Gong", should be "Min Gong"(??) not “Ming Gong”, “Min” comes from famer(??) and “Gong” comes from worker ????, so “Min Gong” means “famer worker” but they are not work in farm, they has a temporary job in big city, just like you said, them provide physical force, no much benefit, pay by hours and just a little, no social benefit payments.

With the China development, the “Min gong” has more meaning, such as “IT Min gong” is used to call software engineer, work hard but less payment, no passion, no innovation, no creative , just like pay as one part of big machine, your work is just follow, and keep running.

One more interesting things, normal contract employee also be called “Min Gong”, that is v-, doesn’t matter you are working for farm or famous company because your job is temporary, so you may has a better understanding of your experience.
